ROCC 2024-2025 Launch Schedule:
NO launch in May due to the wheat. We hope to fly in June.
All launches are at the Midland, NC site unless otherwise stated.*
Here are some other launch opportunities in our area:
ICBM & ROSCO, better known as Rocketry South Carolina, flies near Dalzelle, SC., Just NE of Shaw AFB. More information can be gotten at their site HERE
The Saturn Rocketry Club in Hendersonville is currently switching their launch field. As soon as we know where they land we will post it. Their FB site is HERE
NC Rocketry flies at Bayboro, NC in the northeast part of the state, information is HERE
Set-up starts at about 9:30, launches commence about 10:30. Field closes about 60 min. before local dusk so we can clean up. Watch the site front page for specifics. Also visit us on FaceBook. You can also check for the FAA NOTAM at https://notams.aim.faa.gov/notamSearch/nsapp.html#/ and using KCLT (Charlotte) as the location. This will give you the starting and ending times for HP flights.
* If field is available due to crops, etc.
I'd go for some of the 7.5 and 5.5 inch materials Sandy... could we try and get together next weekend and do some dealing?
DR
I should be around.
Sandy.
A good group of stuff found a new home today. I look forward to seeing it in the air.
Still plenty of stuff available.
Sandy.
All o fthe large heavy tubes are gone, but there's still the free damaged BT-80 tubes and other stuff available.
Let me know what you're looking for!
Sandy.
Any rockets left??
I have had it with not being able to move around in my garage. I have the following items that need to go (local pick-up only):
8" x 1/4" wall x 4ft long tubes. These things weigh around 12# each, so they aren't the ideal candidate for making a rocket. They could work out very well as a mandrel for making fiberglass tubes from scratch. You could get one tube and use the wax paper release method or you could get multiple tubes and fiberglass them directly and soak the cardboard out afterward. I personally would choose the first option and I will be keeping one tube for that purpose. The other 10 need to go. Price: Free.
Estes BT-80 tubing 18" long. These were stored in a box and not that well. Some dampness was in the area somehow and there is a little mold on some and more on others. 16 tubes total, some of which are pretty good, while others are all but junk. There were some couplers in there as well, but the same caveat goes for them and since some were in tubes, I don't know how many there are. Price: Free.
Sorry, but that's the end of the free stuff for now.
Stuff that is for sale includes (but is not limited to):
7.5" Phenolic tubing, couplers, pistons, plastic nosecone, fiberglass nosecones, centering rings, motor mounts, motor adapters.
5.5" plastic nosecones, fiberglass tail cone
4" nosecones.
There are also some rockets available that are flyable, finishable or repairable, depending on which ones. The real noteworthy ones are:
DG&A Armageddon L-3 edition. Built but unfinished. Currently in primer with the last few misc items to do (altimeter switches, recovery harness parachute etc. Nice big rocket.
A 5.5" Scratch build that the original owner used for his L-2. Has been flown many times on J-L motors. Stands around 11 ft tall. Paint was probably nice when it was new, but its a bit tattered in places from use and storage.
1.6" Estes Vega. Built well, but has seen better days. If you recall this model, it has a lot of little bits and pieces that are easily broken or lead to fins getting broken. This one is serviceable and should be a good flier when repaired, but it will need repair for sure.
Really big Upscale Vega - Scratch. 4" dia with huge fins, spring landing system etc. I don't think this one should fly in its current configuration, as the fins are very thick and no effort was made to lighten them. I don't think the rocket is a total basket case either, but someone who knows what to do to lighten the fins and reinforce them is the person who needs this rocket. Depending on how quick some of the other stuff goes away, I may undertake the project, as the rocket is cool enough that it needs to take to the air.
There are many more less spectacular rockets as well, so if you're looking for something interesting or something that needs repairing to pass the time, let me know.
Feel free to e-mail me any questions, make offers, ask to come by and see the stuff etc. There is also motor hardware, but that stores easily, whereas a lot of this other stuff doesn't and that's what's irking me right now - space.
Sandy.
