Upcoming Launch Schedule

ROCC 2024-2025 Launch Schedule:

NO launch in May due to the wheat. We hope to fly in June.

All launches are at the Midland, NC site unless otherwise stated.*

Here are some other launch opportunities in our area:

ICBM & ROSCO, better known as Rocketry South Carolina, flies near Dalzelle, SC., Just NE of Shaw AFB.  More information can be gotten at their site HERE

The Saturn Rocketry Club in Hendersonville is currently switching their launch field. As soon as we know where they land we will post it. Their FB site is HERE

NC Rocketry flies at Bayboro, NC in the northeast part of the state, information is HERE

Set-up starts at about 9:30, launches commence about 10:30. Field closes about 60 min. before local dusk so we can clean up. Watch the site front page for specifics. Also visit us on FaceBook. You can also check for the FAA NOTAM at https://notams.aim.faa.gov/notamSearch/nsapp.html#/ and using KCLT (Charlotte) as the location. This will give you the starting and ending times for HP flights.

* If field is available due to crops, etc.

Discussion > Night Launch

Just some clarification. The rules give max weight, altitude, motor class, etc. I did not see any prohibition on HPR motors that are G and Under - so an F240 or a G69 (Sparky) would be permitted - correct? This assumes that the rocket meets all other criteria including for example the max altitude and take off weight restrictions.

Does anyone know the answer to the question posed?

I spoke with Doc - there is no restriction on average motor thrust only on total thrust so if you are HPR certified and can make a rocket that fits all the requirements and you want to fly an F120/F240 for example, then you can.

Also Doc did say that while Sparkies are not prohibited by the rules - the current fire hazard levels may make them prohibited for the launch depending on how conditions pan out that day. If that happens they are likely to be prohibited for the entire launch not just for the night portion.

BTW - has anyone had any luck putting together a night launch bird that meets the requirements and is able to fly on a G motor? Keeping things under 1500' with a 1.5lb (total weight with motors) could be a challenge...

Hi, what are some of the light sources commonly used for night launching?? I have seen little LED's and strobes before but wonder where to get them or chemical type light sticks. Thanks, Steve
