Discussion > NARTREK Program
I think a member or two might have done all or portions of the Nartrek program. I'm pretty sure Bob B had done it, but he's out in Texas now.
If we can find a field of some sort that would support some flights, I think its a worthy goal. In the past, we've also tried to do at least one day/weekend build/education session, but I don't know if I can host something like that this year due to work.
Hopefully a few people will post some interest and we could do something of some sort. There is a scout launch or two coming up that we usually help out with. If you help out, there's an opportunity to fly 1-5 or so rockets during the 2-4 hour event and that field would support everything for Bronze and might be good for Silver if you're good with a glider.
Chime in, people!!!
Sandy.

This would be fun if we could have 4 or 5 or more club members give it a shot. Once again though the problem is a field for summer early fall flying. A football or soccer field would handle up to C, with the 'D' motor flight being done at Midland.

I am having a blast just building and planning the flights. It is the best excuse to build some low power rockets for fun. I am now thinking of building the Semroc Saturn B1 for my scale requirement for the Silver. It doesn't matter to me if the flights don't happen until the fall, I am having fun.
BUILDING:
Semroc - Scrambler (Payload/Cluster)
Estes - Taser Twin (Streamer/Staging)
Estes - Comanche (Streamer/Staging)
Estes - Astron SkyDart II - (Glider Recovery)
PLANNED:
Semroc - Saturn B-1 (Scale/Cluster)
Semroc - Goblin (D Power)
Come on and Join the Fun !!!

Looks like a pretty good list. Out of your group, I've only built the Taser Twin and I've never even flown it as a 2 stage! I've got a Semroc Saturn 1B and the Semroc Goblin also, but they're just sitting in the box/bag right now.
I think I've somewhat fallen in the ROCC Rut that happens when we lose the field for the summer. I haven't even unpacked from our last launch and the 4 rockets I was working on back then are still sitting, ready for paint, but nothing sprayed yet. Then again, it could be the 100 deg weekends we've been having!
Depending on what I'm supposed to do this weekend, maybe I'll break one out of the bag and start gluing. One thing I have noticed in the past is that once I break the ROCC Rut, I usually try something new (fiberglass, electronics, different painting techniques etc). Maybe this time it will be an actual hard model, like the 1B.
Keep up the good work. Maybe it'll motivate others (like me) to jump in!
Sandy.

Alright, my Saturn-1B should be here about Wednesday or Thursday, so get busy that will work for your scale / D power or cluster. We can start a build thread with pics here or on YORF or other forum.

Sandy,
Perhaps a NARTREK themed launch for our first Midland event of the fall would be a good idea. I think I can do the Bronze with what I have built or nearly built. I may even paint them.
Malcolm

Sorry guys, I've been on vacation. Let me do some reading on the NARTREK, not totally familiar with it.

Sandy,
I started the Saturn 1B tonight. Come on and get out of the ROCC Rut and open up that box and build along!!!

Sounds like a fun idea - now if we could find somewhere to do it!

Just go old school; TV tray in the den watching TV still works and let fins and fillets dry on the TV or bookshelf. That is what is nice about working low power again for this NARTREK Program.

Sending in my $20 registration fee for the special offer that will cover Bronze, Silver and Gold plus one Advanced Level.
Kelly

Do any of youhave any NARTREK rankings (Bronze, Silver, Gold)?
Since the corn is too high, perhaps we could get a few folks together that are interested and knock out the Bronze and Silver levels with ease.
Just an idea, but I will definately be working on this myself over the summer, it would be great to do with others and I will need witnesses.

NARTREK Program Outline
The program has three basic achievement levels: Bronze, Silver, and Gold.
Beyond the Gold level, there are seven advanced achievement areas available:
•Research & Development
•Ground Support
•Static Display
•Super Scale
•Plastic Model Conversion
•Radio Controlled Boost/Glider
•Competition
New advanced programs are added from time to time.
The Bronze Level
Everyone begins at the simplest level. To fulfill the requirements of the Bronze level, you must:
•Perform a 60-second parachute duration flight with a kit model. (No more than B power)
•Perform a 30-second streamer duration flight with a kit model. (No more than B power)
•Perform a two-staged flight with a kit model.
•Perform a large model flight (D motor or above) with a kit model.
Upon completing these requirements you move to the next level: Silver.
The Silver Level
•Perform an undamaged payload flight with a kit model. (Egg, Camera or Electronics)
•Perform a cluster (3 or more) flight with a kit model.
•Perform a 30-second flight with a kit model that uses glider recovery.
•Perform a successful flight of a scale or sport scale with a kit model.
Upon completing these requirements you move to the next level: Gold.
Rockets do NOT have to be from a kit but must include a reference to the model specifications or your own plans.
The same rocket can be used for multiple requirements. (for example I plan on using a SemRock kit of the old
Estes SCRAMPLE that is a 3 cluster rocket for the payload and cluster requirements on the Silver level.
