Discussion > Orangeburg Launch

Wondering if any club members are heading to the Aug 11th launch. I am having a little withdrawal and am willing to make the long drive from Hillsborough, NC. I am also hoping to make another attempt at L2 certification. Steve,

Steve,

John M and myself are planning on going down. I too will be attempting my Level 2 cert if it all comes together for me.
Current plan is to be in CLT on Friday taking my test with Sandy then drive to O'burg Sat. morning.
I will be there Sat & Sun.

Keith said he may be going. I am entertaining the idea as well. However several other events conflict for me.

Thanks John Michael, and Brad. I took the written at the last launch. I will bring it with Me. Will try this time with a LOC Big Nuke using a J250FJ and motor ejection. Depending on conditions, I might add some ballast to keep it low as I thing the supplied 60" chute is a little large. I may still have a 48" from the last crash though. Good luck to You Michael! What are You planning to use? Here's wishing for light wind and dry sod, Steve.

How did you all do?

August 21, 2012 | Registered CommenterMalcolm Smith

After a complete rain out on Saturday, and a low overcast until about12:30 on Sunday, it became clear and calm. I put up a LOC Big Nuke for a first flight on an H242T. Not very high as expected, but a straight and safe flight with a short (5-6 sec.) delay. The cert flight was uneventful an flown on an AT J250 FJ with motor ejection at about 10 seconds. I forgot to bring the checklist and application forms. The clubs LCO Bobby had some though and the paper work is in the mail!
Thanks to all that helped and observed, Steve
