Discussion > Research weekends in Orangeburg
Tripoli Research Safety Code is here. The relevant applicable parts:
7.2.3.
Non-Tripoli Members age 18 and over that are students of an accredited educational
institution may participate in joint projects with Tripoli members. These individuals are
allowed in the Research / High Power Launch Area and/or Model Rocket Launch Area if
escorted by a Tripoli member. The maximum number of non member participants shall
not exceed five (5) per Tripoli Member.
...
7.2.5.
Children younger than 18 years of age that have not completed the Tripoli Mentoring
Program may access and conduct flights from the Model Rocket Launch Area under the
direction of a Senior Tripoli Member. These individuals are not allowed in the Research /
High Power Launch Areas except for recovery of rockets launched from the Model
Rocket Launch Area and only then if the Research / High Power Launch Area is open
and no rockets are being launched from there.
At Oburg Research-designated launches, the "model rocket launch area" is right up front and technically beyond the flight line, so, yes -- they can participate at that locale. However, they can't be with you when you're headed to the mid-power or high-power pads at a designated Research launch.

Scott - have you clarified this with the folks in O'burg? Do they agree that kids can access the model rocket area? I would think they would but stranger things have happened.

I found the answer in this thread on the Orangeburg site:

They are up to date and the mentoring program is available for those minors wishing to participate more fully on Research days. The Tripoli mentoring program is for ages 12-17.

Just a FYI - If I understand things correctly... Currently, Minors (Kids) are not allowed past the flight line at research launches in Orangeburg... kinda limits their participation. Hope this helps...Keith
