Upcoming Launch Schedule

ROCC 2024-2025 Launch Schedule:

NO launch in May due to the wheat. We hope to fly in June.

All launches are at the Midland, NC site unless otherwise stated.*

Here are some other launch opportunities in our area:

ICBM & ROSCO, better known as Rocketry South Carolina, flies near Dalzelle, SC., Just NE of Shaw AFB.  More information can be gotten at their site HERE

The Saturn Rocketry Club in Hendersonville is currently switching their launch field. As soon as we know where they land we will post it. Their FB site is HERE

NC Rocketry flies at Bayboro, NC in the northeast part of the state, information is HERE

Set-up starts at about 9:30, launches commence about 10:30. Field closes about 60 min. before local dusk so we can clean up. Watch the site front page for specifics. Also visit us on FaceBook. You can also check for the FAA NOTAM at https://notams.aim.faa.gov/notamSearch/nsapp.html#/ and using KCLT (Charlotte) as the location. This will give you the starting and ending times for HP flights.

* If field is available due to crops, etc.

January 28th & 29th make-up launch UPDATE Friday eve.

I've been hoping but it hasn't happened... our FAA Waiver has not returned in time. I was hoping it would arrive but now that it's past 7:00 pm it's not going to get here for this weekend.

This will be a straight-up FAR 101 launch.

Nothing above a "G", nothing above 3 lbs basically. Sorry folks, I was really hoping it would be here in time.

Ralph spoke to Ken who was planning to come out on Sunday. He's going to give us a call tomorrow and see what kind of crowd we have. If you were counting on getting something on Sunday let Ken know on your own and that may sway his decision.

Ralph also has some other comitments tomorrow so Che' Roberts' will likely not be open on Saturday, plan accordingly.

We've rescheduled our January launch to the weekend of the 28th & 29th, set up time of 9:30, flights to commence as soon as the field is ready. The weather for Saturday looks foggy to start so we will need to have that burn off a bit. Sunday looks fairly decent, but the whole weekend looks breezy.

Friday looks like rain, so "squishy" rules apply, ie drive carefully down the sides of the runway, and check the site before leaving for the field just in case it's too wet to park on the field.

Elections we are going to try to do through the website. I am working on a ballot form that you can send back to the site instead of trying to take time out of the weekend and get every one together at one time.

We met as a board over last weekend and cleared up some issues as to insurance. We will be flying under NAR sanctions from now on unless there is a compelling reason to run a launch under TRA regulations, but from 2 hours of discussion it doesn't seem likely. For our field and the cross section we have it makes better sense and we're better protected going under NAR. There will be a release form for folks to sign who aren't NAR or TRA members however. This was one of the main problems that started the whole insurance mess, a spectator who got injured by being where he shouldn't have been.

Non-NAR &/or non-TRA flyers will be limited to "C" engine flights.

Remember that all memberships for ROCC expired at the end of 2011, if you haven't renewed then you need to do so, and there will be a compelling reason to do it....

We have reviewed our policy on flyer's fees and have made a decision that we hope will benefit everyone. We have always used the model of a voluntary fee, trusting to folks to pay what they could when reminded. That has not worked as well as we would have liked, with some folks putting in a lot, essentially subsidizing the launch heavily, and some none at all. Where that leaves us at the end of a weekend is sometimes scrambling to get our minimum field rental made.

We are going to move to a mandatory flight fee of $5.00 for ROCC members and $10.00 for non-members per flight day. For parents with children under 12 the kids will fly for free, and the parent, if flying, would pay their own flight fee. We hope that this evens out the burden of making our field rental fees, we think that it will. We are going to try it for a few months and see how it works and, if it's not working, we'll try another approach.

There will be a flyer's meeting before the flight line opens and reminders throughout the day of a lot of things, but we are striving to make the event as enjoyable as we always have. We want you to have a good time and be safe while doing it.

As Roy says, "See you all on the flight line..."

Postponement of 21st & 22nd launch

Well, the weather forecasts for Friday night and Saturday really bite. That on top of an issue with getting our waiver back in time from the FAA and the insurance questions that your board would really like some clarification on to go back to thew Williams' with is all conspiring against launching this weekend.

Right now it looks like next weekend, the 28th/29th, would work, even with Ken being free on the 29th.

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE

We will postpone untill the 28th & 29th. Reset your clocks... unload your ignigters...  see you next weekend....

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings... pass the word to folks

Great Launch, Thanks and Happy New Year!

Man, we had a GREAT turn out for our New Years launch. Lots of folks turned out and flew in the new year.

Remember, we have our regular January launch on the 21st & 22nd. Ken Allen of Performance Hobbies will be down on Sunday, the 22nd. You can order parts and motors from him and he'll bring them to the field for delivery.

If you have video or photos from today or from December's launch send them to me at:  rocketrycarolina at gmail dot com.

Also, remember that all memberships for 2012 are up for renewal in January. Please make sure to renew either by mail with Roy or at the regular January launch. I know that a few folks renewed on Sunday. Your membership helps the club maintain the launch equipment, keep the website running and provide the portasan on the field (no more running to the HESS station!).

Also at our January launch we'll have our elections for club officers. We haven't decided on which day but it probably should be Saturday judging but the usual attendance numbers.

A side note, I was talking about this NASA video earlier today while Bob's WAC Corporal was sitting on the pad, I thought I'd share it...

Sunday, 1/1/2012 Launch WEATHER UPDATE #2

WEATHER UPDATE #2....   it's looking like it's going to be windier the later in the day you go, so plan on flying earlier rather than later.

We are going to start set-up at 9:30 to try and get ahead of the winds.

Ken is going to be with us as it turns out, so bring all that spare Christmas cash!

Happy Holidays to all

I was thinking about this photo the other day and remembering all that was going on in the world when it was taken. We hadn't steped on to the moon's surface yet, the internet wasn't around, and friends of older friends of mine were in far flung places that we couldn't pronounce. It was a christmas blessing in 1968,  and we all needed it.

Peace on Earth, good will to all... see you on the first at the farm....

Santa’s December Pre-Launch announcement. UPDATE SAT

The farm got fairly significant rain on Friday night. Please, Drive down the sides of the runway SLOWLY and be aware we might have to have you park near the house and walk down... but hey, you're car will be near the porta-jon....

Be safe and have fun!

When : Sat and Sun, 17 – 18 December.

Where : The Williams Farm. See Web Site for directions if you are new.

Set Up : 0930.

Launch Start : As soon as set-up is complete.

Launch ends : 5:00 PM so we have some light to close up by.

Check the Web Site for any possible Weather changes.

If we get a lot of rain late Friday into Sat morning, it may cause a problem with the field.

(Note from Doc R.: Please remember that Brad will be attending a family funeral service, so keep your thoughts with him & his family. Also, I will be on a job so I won't be with you all either. Be Safe & have a great holiday... I hope to fly again on the first.)

Ken Allen, Performance Hobbies is expected to be there weather permitting.

Remember that this is a working farm and it is December, so dress accordingly, warm sturdy  shoes and suggest you dress in layers so you can take a layer off when its warm, and add a layer when it gets cool.

When the sun is shining it is like a solar collector out there in the open field so it can be 10 degrees warmer when the sun is clear than in the city.

I will have the ever popular fie pit out to keep your hands warm.

We always want to thank those who have provided us with photos of our launches in the past.

WE Still Want More.

Any pictures you have taken from this or from a recent launch that you would like to get posted on the web site for our embarrassment and your entertainment, just contact Doc Russell at rocketrycarolina at gmail dot com, or as some have done, pass it on a disk or flash drive. We can always get it back to you.

We are continuing with our Range Safety standards by making specific assignments of a :

RSO=, Range Safety Officer to pre-inspect rockets before flights.

LCO=, Launch Control Officer to check range conditions and control the launch’s in a timely and efficient manner.

So far this has worked fine with little to no effect on launch flow.

Check both the WEB site and at the launch’s for info on volunteering for RSO (Cert Lv-2 required) and LCO (Cert Lv-1 preferred, but any responsible and experienced adult can apply).

It’s great for anybody who isn’t flying that day but wants to take part anyway.

And it’s fun to push the little red button.

“KIDS” ROCKET RAFFLE.

We will continue our Rocket Raffle for the kids with a selection of about 17 Prebuilt, painted and ready to fly rockets to choose from.

The kid’s tickets are 50 cents each and we will keep it going over all the launches till they are all given away. Each rocket comes with a “A” or “B” engine with plug and wadding.

Yes, parents can buy tickets and select rockets for their kids.

Hope to see you on the pads and remember to keep those exhaust nozzles clear.

Roy, ROCC Sec.

Proposed launch on 1/1/12, comments welcome

There was a suggestion that, since the 1st falls on a Sunday, we try a launch on New Years Day to ring in 2012 with some rocketry activity. Since this also means that the last day of 2011 falls on a Saturday we could do it then instead.

Please, take a minute and post a comment so we can guage what the feeling is. Saturday or Sunday, general interest and likelyhood that you'd come, etc.

Thanks,

ROCC officers
