Details for October Launch

Everybody:

Well, finally we are back on schedule for the fall portion of our flying season, the Fall campout rocket launch 2004 is coming next weekend Oct 16th and 17th. Launch Times Saturday 12:00-Dark, Sunday 8:00am-6:00pm all day.
We had two Summer Workshops at David Deason's Heating and Air Shop to focus on building techniques in July and August. They were successful, just wish more of you could have made it out. The hurricanes really messed our schedule up for September, nothing we could do about that. So here we are. I hope everyone can make it out. It should be a fun weekend.
NAR Contest
According to Bob Bernatchez here is a list of the Official contest:
1.. 1/2A Boost Glider Duration
2.. C Eggloft Duration
3.. 1/2A Parachute Duration
Prizes will be gift cards from HobbyTown USA and NAR ribbons.
If anyone wants one of the glider kits we are in the process of finishing them up, call me and we will get you one over the weekend, price $5.00.

Scariest Rcoket Contest
Roy came up with the idea to have a scary rocket contest, so build something and paint it with a spooky paint job. We will have the judging after the meeting both days. We will have rocket kits as prizes. I guess the only rule is that the rocket must be flyable.

Vendor:
Ken Allen from Performance Hobbies was scheduled, however, we found out that he will not make it. However, he will be in Orangeburg this weekend and he said that if anybody wants to order something to go ahead and call it in and Ralph can pick up your order. Ralph plans on being down in Orangeburg Sat Oct. 9th.
We will check with both Ariborne Hobbies and Hobbytown USA to see what they have available.

Camping:
I plan on bringing my Gas grill and everyone is welcome to cook on it or I can cook it for you. It gets pretty damp down there at night so bring dry storage for rockets and other goodies you have to keep dry. We will stop flying around 5:30 to give everyone time to setup their tents. However, if the winds are calm we may pop up some big stuff.
Even if you don't plan to stay all night, at least hang around and we can talk rockets around dark. I'll ask Mr. Williams if we can build a campfire.

Flyers fees:
Please encourage folks to come out and fly. Mr. Williams has raised the monthly price we pay to fly on the field so we need as many folks to donate to the Flyer Fee donation jar as possible. We have been doing great on collecting donations, however, we will need a little more to hit the new fee schedule. For a start for the new season I would recommend a donation of $8-$10 per registered flyer. As always, make your donations with what you can no one will be denied the opportunity to fly. We can discuss in a general meeting at the field the flyer fee issue on what we should do going forward. Just a reminder, all flyer fees collected go straight to the Williams for providing the field, making the bathroom available, mowing the grass airstrip, providing storage for the equipment and now providing a place for the club storage magazine.

Trash Pickup:
Be sure to take all your trash with you or bring it to the garbage bags up front, don't toss anything into the high grass or weeds.

Sunday tear-down:
I know it will be a long weekend for some of us, so if you can stay and help tear down Sunday it would be helpful.

NAR and TRA Level 2 Testing
I will have my Tripoli Testing material with me so that I can give the Level 2 test. Hopefully a couple of members will get there Level 2 NAR certs in Orangeburg this coming Weekend. So that we can do NAR Level 2s at the farm.

Meeting:
I would like to have a meeting on the field both days at 4:00pm. We will keep it brief, say 15 minutes or so.

Would like to talk about a few items:
Field safety/rocket retrieval issues
More NAR contest
Volunteers
Elections (Club)
Flyer Fees

Pre - Launch Task

We will setup the range down by the wind sock, again to avoid floating rockets over Mr. Simpson's land. So as before, if you loose rockets in the fields to the North we need to ask permission to go retrieve the rockets from the property. It's not a sure bet, but it may avoid some grief.

Mr. Williams promised that the bathroom will be open all weekend.

John Hood, be sure to call in the waiver, make sure we can start up around 7:30 or so Sunday Morning.

Bob B, let us know if we need forms for the contest, make sure to volunteer helpers for the contest. I am bringing the eggs.

Vic Welland, can you bring down stuff from Airborne or at least give us a update on what they have.

Bob Schoner, will you be coming to the launch? Do you have any news you can share from the TRA board.

Ralph, Check on T-Shirt order they may not be ready. We still have some XLs left. Check with Ted Thomas on some new signs.
