March 2006 Launch Report

Welcome, Welcome, Welcome.
The Post-Launch Report for 18-19 March 2006.
Well, Ive about caught up. I just dont seem to have as much free time as I used too. But give me a rain day to spend home and no other distractions, and I can get a lot of things done.
1st point. I know a lot of you have Spam blockers now. And they work pretty good. Those of you who are about to get it installed, and those with it, (who will not see this) need to have my e-address listed to be passed through, or your messages, rocket launch announcements and post-launch reports will be intercepted and kicked back to us as Non-Deliverable, Spam Blocked.
Some members are going to think that Im deliberately not sending them any more reports and updates not realizing that the blocker is kicking them back.
Saturday, 18 March 2006. The Williams Farm was looking good. Kip Williams (land owner) flew over and landed to say hi and see how we were doing. Every once in a while when hes got time he can take a few of us up for a spin around the farm.
We had a good turnout of 28 fliers and managed to get 92 flights up into the clouds.
Roy Potter, I myself got my Mars Probe prior fin damage repaired and sent it up on E9s until another fin broke. The Sounder flew on F21s.
Justin Grosjean flew the Black Widow on a F20 and F42.
Joe Grosjean flew a rocket called Test 1 with a I211 as booster and a G64 sustainer with altimeter, and then a Fat Boy on a E9.
Bob Bernatchz flew the Over Easy egg lofter on a C11, a Streamer Duration on a 1/2A3-T, a Mini-Manta glider on 1/2A3-Ts and the Mantra Magic Missile on a F24.
Terry Baucom flew his big Fat Boy on a Pro-38 H153, the NYPD on a B6 and everybodys favorite feline, the Garfield Express (pictured in the last Sport Rocketry Magazine) on a Pro-38 I205 with altimeter with main to deploy at 300, but after a beautiful, very high altitude flight, there was no separation at apogee and with collective breath we watched it nose down and at the last second, yards from the ground, the main deployed saving one of Garfields last few lives. The altimeter said it only got to 250.
Tim Franks flew a Apache on a I211 with altimeter, a Honest John on a H180, the Mini Magg on a H148 with only a streamer the flight card said.
The Horizon flew on a G80, the LOC IV on a G40, a Bull Puppy on a G40 and a Amramm on a G40.
Doug Knight flew the Phobos XL on a G40 that was to deploy at 300, but there was no deployment this Saturday. The Storm Chaser flew on a E30, a Strong Arm on a G40 and a small rocket called Its Gone (not expected to
be recovered) on a E9, but instead blew the clay exhaust nozzle out and spent the engine on the pad without enough compression to propel the rocket up. It was reflown as Its Gone Again on another E9 and was recovered I believe.
Todd Haring flew a Silver Comet on a E9, V-2 on a F24, a nice one called Risky Proposition on a H180 with the main deploying at 500. His Arreaux flew on a F24 and the Little O III went up on a F52.
Doc Russell came out with his NORAD on a G64 that was the one to land closest to its launch pad. (Its a bigger competition to see who lands farthest from their pads) The Courrier egg lofter flew on C11s, the Dragon Fly on a 1/2A3-T, the IO on a F40 and Tigger on a H180.
Bill Linker flew a Unk on a F20.
Brad Shea flew the Blue Ninja on E9s and a RTF on a C6.
Hope Shea flew her Blue Ninja on a D12, Shuttle Express on a C6 and the Fire Hawk on a 1/2A3-T.
Tori Jackson flew her Purple Monster on a D12.
Curtis Jackson flew a rocket named Green Slime on a C6.
Brandon Jackson flew a HV-Arcas on a F40 for Brandons first mid power flight and first reload, both well done. He also flew a Super Big Bertha on a D12, a Patriot on a B6 and a Mizar on a B6.
SCS, Team America Rocket Challenge team again tested their competition rocket for actual score this time, with a egg, target duration time and altitude goal of exactly 800. The Twitch III flew on a F40 and F52 coming within just feet of the 800 I hear.
Steve Bumgarner flew the 36 d Square cluster rocket on 2 D12s, the Silverado on a E9, TarTar on a F39, a Mini Manta glider on a 1/2A3-T and the Thug (properly named) on a H165.
Mark Ford flew a new Estes Snap Shot camera rocket on a lot of C6s and the Out Law on a C6.
Justin Flexner flew a Blue Ninja (a very popular rocket it seams) first on a D12, then on a much more powerful E30, and it was recovered. That was a surprise.
Mark Ferrel flew the green Ghost that was a lawn dart last Mo. It flew on a F52 this time and no darting around this time. The LOC Lil Nuke flew on a F12.
Amber Blessard flew her Fire Hawk on a 1/2A3-T and a RTF on a C6.
Jeff Blessard flew, again, another popular Blue Ninja on a D12.
Queens Grant Middle School, TARC team flew their competition rocket named Ajaks with eggs on F20s also seeking the exact 800 altitude.
Mike Scicchitano (sorry, spelling hard to tell on the sheet) flew a LOC FOTE on a h180 with main deployment at 300 and a PML Ariel on a Loki H143, main failed to deploy at 300 and Ariel was the first casualty for the weekend.
Jason Levan flew the Bird Spear on a H123.
Corley Story (not sure of spelling here either) flew a Honest John on a E28.
Ralph Roberts flew his new Red Baron glider, still naked, on a B6.
Mark Canepa, as he says, flew one very old rocket, the LOC H45 (did LOC just number some of their rockets, no names?) and it flew on a G80.
That was Saturday, a pretty good day, good conditions and a wide variation of fliers and rockets.
Sunday, 19 March, 2006.
We had only 15 fliers that day and got up a respectable 55 launchs, but Sundays are normally lighter with more family commitments and activities. But the conditions were great and everyone had plenty of time to prep and leasurely
come up and fly their rockets. No rush, just launchem when you gotem.
Roy Potter, (I usually get to sign-in first cause Im the one who sets up the sign-in table) I fixed the fin on the Mars Probe to fly on a number of E-9s, even the 8 sec delay which can work with no winds so it will go
basically straight up to get more fall time for the whistles to whistle. I also flew a Chute Duration on 1/2A3-Ts.
Bob Bernatchz flew a Titan III E on a E11, Streamer RKT Chute Duration on 1/2A3-Ts, Mini Manta glider on 1/2A3-Ts and a nice big Patriot on a nice noisy H238.
Hope Shea flew her Shuttle Express ona C6, a RTF on a C6 and her Blue Ninja on a E9.
Brad Shea flew his Fire Hawk on 1/2A-T3s and his Blue Ninja on a E9.
Ralph Roberts flew his impressive Fear Factor as a single stage on a I285 to fall drougless with main deployment at 600. I think he had a close call on that flight. Mr. Pringles flew on a F25.
Terry Baucom flew his Warlok on a pro-38 J400 smoky sam, a very impressive sight. His upscale Fat Boy flew on a H153, the Wart Hog on a F40, LOC IV went on a G67 and the HV Arcus on a G64.
Evan Morgan flew a new item, a Estes Oracle video camera rocket on a D12.
Mark Ferrell flew the Green Ghost on a G33, Lil Nuke on a F20 and his HV Arcus on a F24.
Tony Casy flew his Honest John (they are a cool looking rocket) on a G64, the Mean Machine on a E11 without crumbling at take off, a V-2 on a G33 and a F14 Tomcat that went on a C6 renamed the Tom Crash. Ive got one myself and its almost impossible to get them to trim and go into a glide-mode.
Steve Bumgarner got out his collection and flew the Def Con-2 on a H165, the egglofter Egg-actly on C6s, a Parachute duration on 1/2A3-TS, A new one called Yo! BATF flew on a E28 (they got a sense of humor, right?).
The Cliente flew on a G64.
Jim Crabtree, hey Jim, how ya doin? Flew a duel deployment Moon Raker with a Aerotech J415, and 2 non-compition egg lofters, Egg Loft on a E30 and the Flying Chicken on a F20.
Candance Lowe flew a Harpoon on a B6, Big Betty on a C6 and a Baby Bertha on a B6.
Chelsea Lowe flew the tracer on a B6, the Big Daddy on a D12, Storm Caster on a D12 and the Yellow Bob on a C6.
Ralph Lowe flew the Black Brant on a D12, the Deltie on a 1/2A3-T and the Executioner on a E9.
Evan Bishop flew a Mean Machine with a E11, a Mini-Manta glider named Stars and Stripes on a 1/2A3-T and a home design rocket named Hi-Flyer for its first flight on a A8 test flight. It flew good enough to go to a B6 next.
Craig Bishop flew a nice big 3 inch Bull Pup on a G64.
Well that concludes this report for the month of March, it was a good launch weekend, lots of fun and everyone had a good time. We had a lot of visitors and spectators also, and thats always good. It means that we are getting the word out and people are finding out about us just by exploring the web sites and other sources.
OK, everybody get ready for Aprils Camp-Out Launch weekend 29-30 April. Bring your van, tent and bags. I myself sleep in the van and store all my equipment in the tent. Hey, whatever works, right? I will have my fire pit so late night and early morning coffee/cocoa can be available. Dogs and burgers are a common staple out here, but be creative. So remember, keep those exhaust nozzles clear and I will see you on the field.
