November 2010 Launch Report

I hope everyone had a great time at our ROCC  Thanksgiving monthly launch in November.  We had an incredible number of fliers on 11/20 and a smaller group on 11/21.  Conditions were excellent both days with the winds very calm on Sunday.  Temperatures both days were in the 60's with few clouds in the sky.  It was great to see everyone after such a long break from flying  in Cabarrus County.  Thanks for all the help setting and tearing down the launch.  Everyone’s efforts were greatly appreciated!  Ken Allen was present for both days and a number of fliers took advantage of the shopping opportunity.  Ken should be there for the December launch so bring cash and/or cards; remember it is Christmas time!

We need to focus on memberships next month; we should have t shirts available which may help with sales.  Though not required to attend and fly at the farm, donations provide the funds to maintain the club equipment, TRA and NAR association fees and insurance. A reminder to all who come out to the field that donations are necessary in order to pay expenses.  The flight donation jar at the launch table goes to the land owner in appreciation for the use of his land and providing a storage shed for out equipment.  We have a lot of good photographers out at the launches and we would like to post your photos, the good, the bad and the ugly on our club web site so contact Doc Russell at rocketrycarolina@gmail.com  to see how to get your shots posted.

Keep a look at the ROCC web site for more information at WWW.rocketrycarolina.org.

The crowd on Saturday was one of the largest I've ever seen at Williams Farm.  It was great to see cars lined up and down each side of the runway.  Ralph Roberts was selling hot dogs, chips, sweets and drinks and sold out most of what he had thanks to the large hungry group which included a bunch of Cub Scouts from Pack 102 in Concord.  Dr. Doug Knight's group from Mitchell Community College (MCC) were in attendance.  They are a part of the NASA University Student Launch Initiative, or USLI, which is a competition that challenges university-level students to design, build and fly rockets with a variety of goals. The project engages students in scientific research and real-world engineering processes with NASA engineers.

On Saturday we had 64 documented fliers who put up a total of 112 recorded flights that I can account for.  You may notice that some of the flier names have a ? after their name.  Some of the names were difficult to read so if I butchered your name I am sorry.
