Ho Ho Holy cow, we launched a lot on Christmas!

From Louise....
I hope everyone had a great time at our cold ROCC Christmas monthly launch in December. The planning for this launch was less than perfect since the weather forecast was so “iffy” and we knew that we would have a light turnout with Christmas only a week away. Just a very few brave souls showed up on Saturday. A few did fly until the freezing rain started at about 12pm. Sunday’s turnout was a bit better but we still had a much lower turnout than usual. Students from NC State who are participating in the NASA University Student Launch Initiative, or USLI, which is a competition that challenges university-level students to design, build and fly rockets with a variety of goal were in attendance. The project engages students in scientific research and real-world engineering processes with NASA engineers. were in attendance and attempted a launch. A major objective of the project is to deploy an air sampling module at apogee. Even though there were only 18 launchers on Sunday everyone had a great time. Ken Allen from Performance Hobbies was there and we had new ROCC club t shirts available for sale.
We need to focus on memberships in January. Though not required to attend and fly at the farm, donations provide the funds to maintain the club equipment, TRA and NAR association fees and insurance. A reminder to all who come out to the field that donations are necessary in order to pay expenses. The flight donation jar at the launch table goes to the land owner in appreciation for the use of his land and providing a storage shed for out equipment. We have a lot of good photographers out at the launches and we would like to post your photos, the good, the bad and the ugly on our club web site so contact Doc Russell at DOCR@wireknot.com or wireknot@gmail.com to see how to get your shots posted.
Keep a look at the ROCC web site for more information at WWW.rocketrycarolina.org. We are planning a New Years launch on 1/1/11 from 11am-3pm and next monthly launch is scheduled for 1/15 and 1/16. Hope to see everyone at the next launch!
On Saturday we had about 4 fliers and on Sunday we had a total of 18 fliers. I was unable to locate the sign in sheet for Saturday so I am guessing the number of fliers. The launches noted are for both days.
