Here are some other launch opportunities in our area:

ICBM & ROSCO, better known as Rocketry South Carolina, flies near Dalzelle, SC., Just NE of Shaw AFB.  More information can be gotten at their site HERE

The Saturn Rocketry Club in Hendersonville is currently switching their launch field. As soon as we know where they land we will post it. Their FB site is HERE

NC Rocketry flies at Bayboro, NC in the northeast part of the state, information is HERE

Set-up starts at about 9:30, launches commence about 10:30. Field closes about 60 min. before local dusk so we can clean up. Watch the site front page for specifics. Also visit us on FaceBook. You can also check for the FAA NOTAM at https://notams.aim.faa.gov/notamSearch/nsapp.html#/ and using KCLT (Charlotte) as the location. This will give you the starting and ending times for HP flights.

* If field is available due to crops, etc.

Weekend Update...

From John Bergsmith Tuesday morning...

"I drove by the field yesterday to determine if flying would be possible this coming weekend. Didnt take long to determine that it would not be. The corn has grown to a point were finding a rocket would be almost impossible. We might have a possibility of a low power launch in the future was the lower field is cleared out."

So, with that in hand, this weekend's launch is scrubbed. We do have several Cub Scouts things coming up, and I had a lovely chat with Kelly Jenkins yesterday about his first O'Burg weekend and having a really great time. That's always an option for most of you.

If anyone can find us a field PLEASE contact one of the officers and see what we might be able to arrange, even if it's not an HP field. At least that would keep us meeting on a regular basis.

Has anyone considered talking to the speedway about some of their parking and camping areas?

Sandy and I had talked about it but I don't think anyone has reached out to the speedway. It would be great if anyone had contacts.

You might want to also post about this in the Discussion area. There is a thread there titled "Summer 2012 Field Search": http://www.rocketrycarolina.org/discussion/post/1823073

I have a contact at the speedway that I spoke to last weekend. The problem with the speedway parking lots are they are so divided up now. With all of the changes the speedway has gone through they really don't have a single lot that is large anymore. I flew over the speedway for about 30 minutes last weekend looking for an area that might work. Everything is divided by gravel roads, fences, buildings, light poles, etc.....
