A milestone for the truly "geeky"

Back in 1977 when the 2 Voyager spacecraft were launched they really weren't supposed to last this long. Really, they were sent on a one way ride and would eventually leave the solar system and be our calling cards to the stars.

Now 35 years later we are still getting science from the project and here's the really cool thing. In recent months the level of cosmic rays striking the Voyager 1 spacecraft have increased steadily. This points to the spacecraft leaving the Sun's heliosphere and entering intersteller space. Since May 2012 the level has almost doubled and this scientists say is a good indication that the Sun's solar wind is now not overpowering the cosmic particles striking the craft.

Wow. Here's a link to more.

Thanks for the post. All that time and only 17 light hours away, NASA needed V-MAX.
