Message: Hello! I met someone from your club at the HobbyTown USA on Harris Blvd earlier today. I have a group of 15 students who will be building and launching level 1 rockets on Thursday or Friday of this week (1/31 or 2/1) while the majority of their classmates are attending SpaceCamp in Huntsville. I realize it's short notice but we would welcome a rocket expert to help guide them through the launch & answer questions. Please let me know as soon as possible if anyone would be available either day 8:00a-1:00p. The only time that is not available is 11:00-12:00 on 1/31 due to a scheduled guest speaker. The address for Mountain Island Charter School is 14516 Lucia Riverbend Hwy, Mt Holly, NC 28120. My phone number is 704-663-9373 and the school number is 704-827-8840.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Christy Flynn

I will call her. I might be able to do this on Thursday.
I have setup things with Christy. I am going to be at the school around 8am or 9am depending on my final schedule. She has 15 kids with Estes Skill Level 1 rockets and they are building them Wednesday and then flying on Thursday. I can't be there exccept on Thursday - if anyone can help on Wednesday that might be useful.
Also Doc I need to check with you about equipment. They have very basic - single pad with controller. I'm thinking the PVC pads and rods and the old smaller lauch controller. I need a new 12v UPS battery so I was thinking I could use that with the smaller controller. Thoughts?
You could use that, yes, if you made an adapter. The other way would be to use a large gel cel battery or one of those car jumper battery kits that they sell. You know the things... they have a flash light, maybe a pump, etc. and a fairly high amperage gel cel in them.
I think the older controller works with the newer green pad relay boxes but I'm not certain. If you go out to the farm get the controller, a box, a cat5 cable and a power cord and you should be good to go, but I'd check it before you get out there. I have the grey launch controller with the big buttons that I know works, but you'll need the black 12-volt zip cord. I think I have that as well. Or you could just use the single pad and do it that way.
Thanks for picking up on this, I am booked on an install and couldn't do it. dr
