November 22nd Launch Report from Roy

Welcome back to the Pads, November 22ndSaturday Rocket Launch Report.

Sorry it took so long, the holidays, coming holidays and work take their toll.

But it wasn’t it great to get back out at the farm and get back to launching rockets again?

Some familiar older models and newly built rockets for the first time.

And,  be able to take a deep breath of open air mixed with the rich sent of rocket exhaust again.

Between the summer weather and a long summer crop cycle we have really missed out on flying, but its great to be back.

ROCC club 2014 Membership’s.  See our membership officer Jason Pettler.

Check the Web Site and select the membership for more information.

Pictures. Check the Gallery for launch photo’s, many now with captions.

Remember, for our embarrassment and your entertainment, any pictures you have from this or any recent launch that you would like to get posted on the web site for everyone to see, just contact Doc Russell at "rocketrycarolina at gmail dot com" or, as some have done, pass it on a disk, memory card or flash drive. We can always get it back to you. That’s how I do it.

Saturday only, 22 November. Unfortunately Sunday was accurately forecasted as a rain out.

The weather was really great. Darn cold at 9am, but after setup was done it continued to warm up out there in the open field, we decided we didn’t need the fire pit and we were down to light shirts for most the day. We could not have wanted it any better.

And, there was almost no wind, only an occasional breeze. The only flights that went far away were those that decided to do so on their own. But there were no loss’s, everything came back.

Jason Pettler took over the Hot Dog grilling and kept us fueled up.

Corky Story had a big rocket garage sale that he was able to stock a lot of us up on some great kits, parts, engines and just stuff.

We had 29 fliers who put up 91 flights burning 99 engines.

That includes all clusters and multi-stage flights.

A’s= 8,  B’s= 18,  C’s= 27,  D’s= 5,  E’s= 13,  F’s= 11,  G’s= 11,  H’s= 6,  I’s= 0,  J’s= 1,

(Remember, what I write is influenced by the penmanship/spelling of the writer.)

Wade Glaser, team leader of the G.D.S. TARC team. They flew the “Perseverance” on test flights for Time Duration, Altitude of a target 800ft and to safely carry and recover one egg, on flights with F36-5 Smokey Sam engines.

Rodney Earp flew his nicely done upscaled “Der Red Max” on a G40, his “Mini Magg” on a H242 had some kind of blow-by Kato with the only damage to the chute bundle. His two stage “222” flew on a booster of two G250’s to a H148R sustainer for a great two stage flight though it did go over the creek but within easy recovery from a tree.

Doc Russell flew his classic upscaled “Sprint” on a E9-6 with a good streamer recovery. His upscaled Estes “Interceptor-E” was the last flight of the day on a E20-7 which always looks so cool under thrust.

Ralph Roberts got his Estes cave man “Rock-It” up on a D15-5w plus his “East Side Thug” on a G64-7w that took to skywriting after clearing the rod for a unknown reason.

Scott Penington flew a lot. His “Mars Snoop Dog” (a Estes Mars Snooper clone kit) nicely done, flew on a C6-5, the “Lawn Dart” on B6-4’s, “Barney” (not the dinosaur) flew on a H410-7 Vmax, “Chuck” also flew on B6-4’s. The “Green Dragon” flew on a H410-7 Vmax, the “Silver Bullet” flew on a C6-5, the “Harpoon” on a E9-4 and the “Cosmo” on a E9-4. Last launch his really nice “Nike Ajax” burned in half from a kato, but today it flew again fully rebuilt, looking great to fly again perfectly on a F15-6.

Brandon Jackson flew his “Serapper” on a F120-6, his nice looking scratch built “Bellatrix” flew on a E18-5, and his “Aldeberon” flew on a H133-5.

Curtis Jackson flew a big “Black Widow” on a G76-6 and a Estes “Big Bertha” on a C6-5.

Mark Bartkowiak flew his “Flying Stove pipe” on a B6-4 with a tumble recovery. (there is a glide return version that is cool) the stealthy looking “S.W.A.T.” flew on a E9-6 with a streamer recovery and the “Dragon-Fly” glider went up on a mini A10-3. His “M.I.R.V.” was impressive. It boosted on a C6, then released three rockets to independently boost away on mini A10-3’s to return by chute.

Bonnie Gordon flew the “Yoo-Hoo!” on a C6-5 with a Jolly Logic altimeter then “Dad’s Stogie” on a C6-5 also with the Jolly Logic to check the altitude.

Jason Beckert flew the Estes Pro Series II “Ascender” (single stage version) twice on the Estes F18-8’s and a unk Estes Kit on a C6-5.

Kirsten Thompson flew a Estes “Patriot” on a B4-4.

Michael Thompson flew a Estes “Heli Cat” on B4-4’s, a tad low but fully deployed and returned buy chute and helicopter nose cone return.

Christian Thompson also flew the Etes “Patriot” on B4-4’s.

Casey Tussel flew a Estes Pro Series II “Majestic” on F15-8’s.

Jackson Fulbright flew a Estes “Mini Der Red Max” on a mini 1/2A3-4.

Cora Chapman flew a Estes “Baby Bertha” on aC6-5 and a “Flash” on a B4-4 and C6-5.

John Chapman flew the Estes “Flash” on a C6-7.

Noah Lazo flew a “Blue Max” on C6-5’s and a ”Air Force” on C6-5’s.

Alexander Lazo also flew the “Air Force” on C6-5’s.

Roy Potter flew his “Union Jack” with the British flag chute on a E15-4 and a Aero-Tech “ARCAS” on a F42-4 showing off the large donut chute.

Jason Petler, when not serving hot dogs and chili, or sizing up new members in club T-shirts after joining ROCC, flew the “Black and Gold Carbon” rocket on a G107 with a successful dual deployment at 1000ft, and his “Viper-3” with a successful cluster of three E9-6’s.

Barb Tobin, back from this years NAR sport and completion launch, flew her Quest “Screamer” with a cluster of two C6-3’s, a test flight of a “Helicopter” on a C6-3, a Mini “Fat Boy” on a mini A10-3, the test flight of a Competition “Helicopter” that comes down nose first, on a mini A3-4. Her “Hi- Flyer” flew on a B6-4 and just for the heck of it she flew a Level one qualification flight with a “IRIS” sounding rocket on a H152-8 blue streak for a successful flight. Congrats Barb!

Ryan Bergsmith flew a large “Blue Crayon” on a G76-5 and a smaller Estes “Yellow” and “Gold” Crayon (same one?) on C6-3’s. The “Yellow Crayon” was the first launch of the new flight season.

John Bergsmith flew his big bad “Fantom EXL” on a J350 with a successful dual deployment at 400ft. His “Nike Smoke” flew on a G80-7 and his “V-2” katoed a E12-4 on the stand with some kind of forward closure failure. There’s a good picture in the gallery.

Kim Bergsmith flew a Estes “Pink Crayon” on a C6-3.

Marianna Ogino flew a Estes “Metalizer” on a B6-4.

Lockheart ? flew a “Mini Magg” on a G185-7.

David Reid flew a old Estes “Screaming MiMi” on a D12-5, a “Fat Boy” on a C6-5, the “Spy Plane” (SR-71) on a C6-5, the “Red Head” on a D12-3 and a “Arreaux” on a F27-8.

Isabel ? flew a “Super Mosquito” on a D12-5, a Star Wars “R2-D2” on a C6-3 (really needed a 18mm D or E) didn’t get altitude to deploy and land. Broke a clear plastic fin.

Hope everyone had fun and will be looking forward to our next launch, till then, remember to keep your exhaust nozzles clear.
