January 2016 Launch Report

January 30 - 31, Saturday and Sunday “Much Delayed January Rocket Launch ”.

It was good temperature wise after the frost burned away and almost clear skies but there was a constant mild breeze with periodic gusts, and then periodic near calms. Bide your time and you could get a good launch window.

Ken Allen of Performance Hobbies, (the designated target area for out of control rockets)

Ken was there again delivering orders and keeping us supplied with all our rocketry needs.

Jason Pettler had the grill up and putting out hotdogs and burgers by request, chips and drinks. Jason was also busy recruiting people into our new 2015 ROCC Membership.

LOST AND FOUND. We Still have=

We would like to get these to the rightful owner, if not we might raffle them off.

4inch (LOC) nose cone, heavily weighted, painted black and white like I would see on a V-2 nose cone was found at the 31 Jan- 1 Feb 15 launch.

Rodney Earp flew and lost a black/white LOC V-2 at the Jan 1st 2015 New Years launch, so it could be his.

Pictures. Check the Gallery for launch photo’s. We see everyone is taking photo’s.

Remember, for our embarrassment and your entertainment, any pictures you have from this or any recent launch that you would like to get posted on the web site for everyone to see, just contact Doc Russell at "rocketrycarolina (at) gmail (dot) com" or as some have done, pass it on a disk, memory card or flash drive. We can always get it back to you. That’s how I do it.

Saturday, Sat, 30 Jan 2016.

We had  20 fliers , put up  49 flights burning  49 engines with  5 Dual Deployment flights.

That includes all clusters and multi-stage flights.

A’s= 4,  B’s= 9,  C’s= 7,  D’s= 9,  E’s= 5,  F’s= 3,  G’s= 7,  H’s= 2,  I’s= 2,  J’s= 1,  K’s= 0.

(Remember, what I write is influenced by the penmanship/spelling of the writer.)

Liam Thrower flew his LOC “Mini Magg” on a H123 that flew great but the Jolly Logic Chute Release system didn’t release the chute bundle. Don’t know the after action report results.

Larry Becigneal flew his Estes “Shuttle Express” on a B6-2 and B4-4 with two piggy back shuttles that steeply glided back to earth. His “Red Bull with Wings” (Check the Photo Gallery) flew straight and true on a D12-5 even with the big mid body wings.

Shawn Becigneal flew a scratch built “Escalade” on a A8-3 and B4-4, a Estes “Der Red Maxx” on a C6-5, a Estes “Plasma Probe” on a B6-4 and the new Estes “Flip-Flyer” helicopters return twice on a B6-4 but did’nt make a perfect helicopter landing.

Roy Potter flew the new upscale “British Union Jack” with the new British Flag paint job on the new Economax G74-6 along with the “Pepsi” rocket also on the G74 which performed not to my expectations but did do a nice low level flight. The orange/white “Test III” flew fine on a D12-3.

Alan Stephenson flew a Estes “Leviathan” on a G80-7 and a beautiful Stars and Stripes (check the photo gallery) LOC “Bruiser” on a J357-8 for a succesfull L-2 certification flight.

Steven batten flew a white “Snow Flake of the Apocalypse” saucer twice on a D12, once stuck on the rod. A sure sign of Doom. His “Waiver of Oz” flew on a E20-7 with a streamer recovery. “Captain Air-America” made a good shakedown flight on a G88-6.

Cheryl Batten flew a Estes “Pink Crayon” on a C6-5 and a Estes “Sky Writer” on a B6-4.

Jason Pettler flew his “lil Goblin” on a H165 to test his “chute bundle cable cut” dual deployment system that worked on the test table but not in the air. Don’t know the why, it sounded good.

Kaitlin Pettler flew a Estes “Storm Caster” on a E9-6 that performed much too well and was lost far away on the wind.

Charles Ogino flew his “MECO” on a I599 with a dual deployment at 700ft. I think he used a radio tracker on this. The I599 was like a mortar round, boom it was up and gone.

Eddie Haith, who is a old timer at the hobby, flew his “Red” on a G78-7 for a high but safely recovered flight. His classic Estes “Silver Comet” flew on a D12-7, a old Estes “Maxi Alpha 3” flew on a D12-7 but the chute failed to come completely out of the tube. His “Butter Cup” flew fine on a F44-8 but again failed to deploy the chute. It previously kato’d a Estes E12 without damage.

Rylar and Keegan flew a Estes “Baby Bertha” on a B6-4 with a streamer recovery.

Sunday, 31 January, 2016.

Again, easy laid back atmosphere, fly’em when your ready. A bit more windy.

A’s= 25,  B’s= 24,  C’s= 35,  D’s= 3,  E’s= 3,  F’s= 7,  G’s= 4,  H’s= 3,  I’s= 2,  J’s= 1,  K’s= 0.

Natalie Smith flew a Estes classic “Mercury Redstone” on a C6-5.

Her NAR “Helicopter Proto type One” flew twice on a A10-3. Her Estes Pro Series II “Argent” flew on a F16-5.

Dan Mathers flew a “MMRX-2” on a slow burn H87-12 with a dual deployment, drogue at apogee with main at 700ft with a 500ft backup.

Pete Brennan flew a “Mirrage” on a slow burn H90-6 for a L-1 cert flight that failed due to body separation. Sorry Dude. That just means you get to upgrade for your next attempt.
