Ken braved the chill somewhere else this weekend.”
YES, you can take a couple of ‘Blank Launch Slips’ home to make your own copies so you can pre-fill out your slips in advance. You can use colored copy paper for custom slips.
LOST AND FOUND and some Donated Items that need a home.
We have identified Four Found rockets. 1. Lilly G. (Gambrell?) Silver with Green paint Estes “Star Hopper” flown Sat, 25 Jan 25, found in the late afternoon. 2. Richard Mayberry’s Estes “Long Ranger” yellow body with purple nose and fins flown Sat, 20 Apr 24 found during Launch breakdown. 3. Shay Hill’s small Estes “Wizard” painted blue. 4. Q-Roc, long unpainted 20mm body with white 3-D printed nose and fin canister, flown Sat, 21 Dec 24. Keep your eyes open on the ground for anything. Not all motor casings look alike. Also there are mini altimeters, nosecones, motor retainers, ect.

Saturday, 25 January 2025. I think it was 29 0r 30 degrees when we got there at 10am to setup. But by setup and with a open range it was about 34 and in the low 40’s at noon. It just got warmer as the day progressed with the open fields acting like a solar collector making it up to 5degrees warmer than downtown. The projected winds were 5 to 7 mph to the N to NE. There were periodic lulls of almost calm. It was a pretty much a “Fly’em when you got’em” kind of day. No rush and plenty of time.
We had 12 fliers, flying 44 flights and burnt 50 motors.
That includes all clusters and multi-stage flights
A-4, B- 4, C- 11, D- 11, E- 9, F- 4, G- 2, H- 3, I- 2, J- 0.

(I do not witness all flights, so if no notes were made on the flight slip by the launchers, or a Flight Slip is missing, some information may be in error.)
Ron Crosier Flew a classic Estes custom painted ‘Big Bertha’ on a “B4-4”, a ‘Gyroc’ (Helo return?)on a “B4-4”, and the ‘Drifter’ also on a “B4-4”. The ‘Bobby Bullet’, a custom novelty kit, flew on a “A10-3t”, and the ‘Mini Bertha’ on a “A10-3t”. His ‘Acme Coyote Express’ flew on a “E12-6”.
Lilly G. (Gambrell?) A new young female flyer flew her Estes new Egg Launcher, ‘Green Egg to Space’ twice on “D12-5’s”. She also flew the Estes ‘Star Hopper’ twice on “A3-4t’s”. The second ‘Hopper’ launch was lost in the corn field but picked up later by Ralph when looking for another rocket.
Harper G. Sister to Lilly, flew her Estes ‘Green Egg to Space’ also twice on “D12-5’s”.
Daniel Hanna, a new young flyer, she flew her Estes “Pro Series II” ‘Majestic’ on a “F15-4” and a ‘Star Orbiter’ on a Mojave Green “G78-10”.
Michael Hollowell flew a 3-D printed ‘Whirl and Hurl 24’ spin bladed rocket on a “C6-pluged” motor that spun upward then flipping to spin helo recovery back. His first grandstander was his R.C. controlled ‘Aurora passenger transport’ glider boosted up on a long burn “E6-pluged motor. Very impressive, graceful flight and landing on the edge of the runway. Then he upped it with the Up Scaled R.C. ‘Aurora’ glider boosted up on a longer “H13-pluged motor. Again, graceful and you could hear the whistled air flowing over the fuselage and wings during a early speed gaining diving turn and a smooth landing on the near center of the runway. Very impressive.
Quinten Kustere flew a Estes ‘Comanche’ single stage on a “C6-5”, then the ‘Comanche-2’ two stage version on a “C6 to C6-7”, then the whole ‘Comanche-3’ version twice on a “D12 to “C6 to “C6-4”. Managing to recover all boosters and the main stage. He also flew a black and white ‘Half and Half’ twice on a “E12-4” and a “E12-6”.
John Laton flew the popular Apogee Rockets 4 inch HP Zephyr kit, named ‘Hope Springs Eternal’ for a L-1 Certification flight on a Aero Tech “I180-10” white lighting. Between the “I” motor getting a very high altitude, apogee chute deployment and turning toward the N.W. it made a tree landing in the N.W. area, but clear of the Simpson farm. I believe they located it so it’s just a matter of contacting the property owner. That area has been very helpful in the past.
Scott Pennington always brings out an assortment of his classics. The futuristic looking ‘Cosmo’ flew well on a “E12-4”, the ‘SA- Archer’ scale missile flew on a “F67-6w” with a good Jolly Logic deployment at 300ft. The ‘Dark Star’ flew on a “E12-4” and the scale NASA ‘Li’l Joe’ flew on a “E30-4” with only damage to the escape motor tower, that always happens with this model. His ‘SAMMI-G’ flew great on a “H219-8t” with a good J/L chute deployment at 300ft. His scale ‘NIKE Zeus’ flew on a Fast accelerating “H550-8t” with a good J/L deployment at 400ft. His scale NASA ‘Red Stone’ flew on a “D12-5”.
Roy Potter. I usually am too busy to get very many flights up, but it was slow enough that I was able to get many of my Rear Ejection rockets up. ‘White-1’ went up on a Estes “D12-3”, the ‘Yellow-2” up on a “E20-4”, the ‘Blue-3’ on a “F32-4”, the ‘Orange-4’ on a “G79-4” and a salvaged/rebuilt ‘Falcon Missile’ for it’s second test flight on “F32-4”, maybe a bit more nose weight?
Doc Russell, later in the day after assisting other fliers with problems, flew his immaculate upscale of the small Estes ‘Sprint’ on a “I211-“ with an electronic RRC-3 good dual deployment at 500ft.
Josh Shires flew his ‘REX’ on a “B6-4” then twice on “C6-3’s”, his stock ‘Der Red Max’ flew on a “C6-5” and a classic Estes ‘Big Bertha’ also on a “C6-5”, all good flights.
Burke Wallace flew a ‘Star Trek Max’ on a “D12-3” for a good first ? flight.
Sunday, 26 January 2025. It was a great day to fly. Clear sky even in the early afternoon when some passing high clouds would occasionally pass through. Winds were 3 to 5 mph, mostly East but moved around toward the north and northwest with a number of calm periods, and little drift with a number of smaller rockets just hanging in space. By noon many jackets and sweatshirts were off, specially if you were walking a lot. It’s always Random Chance on who can come out on a nonstandard weekend, but you all missed out on a great day.
We had 6 fliers, flying 28 flights and burnt 28 motors.
That includes all clusters and multi-stage flights
A-3, B- 5, C- 8, D- 5, E- 1, F- 3, G- 2, H- 1, I- 0, J- 0.

(I do not witness all flights, so if no notes were made on the flight slip by the launchers, or a Flight Slip is missing, some information may be in error.)
Mark Bartkowiack flew his (he does his own 3-D printing) 3-D printed ‘One Ring to Rule them All’ single ringed rocket on a “A8-3”, his ‘Joan and Bonnie Gordon Memorial Rocket’ two stage flew on a “C6 to A10-3t” for a test flight. I was waiting for his ‘Flying Stove Pipe’ on a “C6-3”. It’s cool when it separates and the hollow tube ,i.e. Stove Pipe, actually glides down. It stuck to the main body this time and tumbled down without damage
Ron Crosier flew his ‘Red Nova’ great on a “D12-5”, his ‘Big Der Red Max’ flew on a “F15-4” and a “F67-6”. He flew the new Estes Camera rocket, the ‘Not so Long Astro Cam’ on a “D12-5” with the nose/camera coming down on one chute taking pictures and the booster body on another chute. Everybody smiled! His ‘Orbital Transport and attached/released Shuttle Glider’ went up on a “C6-5” with the circling Shuttle landing not too far away from the Transport. His ‘Constellation-D’ went high up on a “D16-6” but did not separate after hearing the ejection charge go off and Darted into the soft farm field with front end damage.
Then he was hit by the Rocket Gods again when his two stage ‘Bandit’ boosted off on a “C11” but did not ignite the Sustainer stage “D12-7” so also darted into the field with front end damage.
Roy Potter, again I had time to get my regular and larger Rear Ejection flights up this time. My ‘White-1’ went up on another Estes “D12-5”, the ‘Yellow-2’ went up on one of my last Aero Tech “E15-4’s” (they are being discontinued replaced by the E20), The ‘Blue-3’ flew on a “F41-5” after three bad igniters, we thought there was a electrical problem, but it was just bad igniters. My ‘White-7’ flew on a “G79-4” landing just behind my trailer. My big bright orange ‘Target Drone” flew great on a “H133-6” taking off much faster than I expected and a greater altitude with apogee ejection deployment, but luckily with little wind, it drifted to the north east field and not across the road.
Ralph Roberts (Rocket Ralph to us old timers) flew a Estes ‘Patriot’ on a “C6-5” early to watch the smoke trail for wind directions at different altitudes. (there were none) His old faithful ‘Cosmic Staff of Azul’ (you have to be in a special age bracket to know what that is) flew great as always on a Aero Tech reload “G64-4”.
Josh Shires came back also to fly his classic Estes ‘Big Bertha’ on a “B6-4” and a “C6-5” and his new Battle Star Galactica ‘Viper Mark-4’ twice on “B6-4’s”. His stock ‘Der Red Max’ flew on a “C6-4? and a C6-5”, the ‘Yellow’ flew on a “A8-3” and another ‘Viper?’ (not B.S.G.?) on a “A8-3”.
Malcom Smith came out, he’s had a busy time recently, but he flew Low Power to cut back on treking through the fields. His ‘CINCO’ flew on a “C11-5”, his stock ‘Der Red Max’ flew on a “B4-4” and his Semroc kit ‘OSO’ flew on a “B4-4” for satisfyingly short walks.
Happy Flying Everybody and Remember to keep the pointy end up.
