Upcoming Launch Schedule

ROCC 2024-2025 Launch Schedule:

All launches are at the Midland, NC site unless otherwise stated.*

Here are some other launch opportunities in our area:

ICBM & ROSCO, better known as Rocketry South Carolina, flies near Dalzelle, SC., Just NE of Shaw AFB.  More information can be gotten at their site HERE

The Saturn Rocketry Club in Hendersonville is currently switching their launch field. As soon as we know where they land we will post it. Their FB site is HERE

NC Rocketry flies at Bayboro, NC in the northeast part of the state, information is HERE

Set-up starts at about 9:30, launches commence about 10:30. Field closes about 60 min. before local dusk so we can clean up. Watch the site front page for specifics. Also visit us on FaceBook. You can also check for the FAA NOTAM at https://notams.aim.faa.gov/notamSearch/nsapp.html#/ and using KCLT (Charlotte) as the location. This will give you the starting and ending times for HP flights.

11/23 Update 8 PM... (Mother Nature strikes again.)

Update 8 PM Saturday evening, 11/23:

As of 8 PM this evening the rain gauge near Kip's farm has received .9 inches of rain and it's still raining.

The field will not be usable on Sunday the 24th.

We do have word from Ken that he's available on next weekend, the 30th, so with any luck we'll be able to launch. The coming weeks weather looks good, so keep your fingers crossed.

Doc R.

Unless you're living in a shoe in the forest with no cable then you've probably heard that heavy rain is an almost certainty for most of the day on Saturday, starting in earnest around noon. It looks like we'll need to try for the 30th unless all the weather sources turn out to be wrong.

There is a glimmer of hope for Sunday if that predicted rain isn't as much as they are saying but we'll need a go from Kip once we know what happened over Saturday, so it may very well be that we'll not know before late Saturday or early Sunday. The thought of the officers is if we don't get too much we might be able to start around noon or 1 on Sunday and at least salvage an afternoon of flying.

Say tuned to the website and/or the Face Book feed and we'll post as soon as we know something.

Try to stay dry...  happy Thanksgiving if we don't see you before then!

Launch postponed 1 week to 11/23 & 24

If you've looked outside today you know that ol' Momma Nature has dealt us a crewel blow this weekend, moving the weather that had been forecast to be over by early Friday morning to now stretch into Saturday afternoon.

If it was just windy we could probably deal with it, but since Tuesday the site has gotten about 3/4" of rain, and it's predicted to rain off and on into tomorrow noon-1 PM, with winds approaching 20 MPH.

We just can't deal with that all together, so we're pushing back to next weekend, the 23rd and 24th of November.

Luckily Ken can be with us next weekend so we'll have a vendor on site, and Kip (the owner of our site if you aren't aware of it) has given his thumbs-up.

On the bright side, you've got an extra week to run out and get a few more rockets and get 'em built before next weekend.

Update Thursday nite.... Launch November 16th / 17th

Update Thursday evening...

Well this just sucks...  the weather that looked so promising on Tuesday is now closing in on Saturday with a vengeance.

Rain is now predicted to go right through Friday and into Saturday till about 1 PM. Total is around .5 - .75 inches in Midland.

Stay tuned tomorrow, we'll see how the rain clouds move. DAMN YOU mother nature!!

Welcome back folks, looks like we're a GO for at least Saturday the 16th and hopefully Sunday the 17th. It looks like there is some rain due over Thursday PM and Friday AM, but currently they're projected to be less than a 1/4 inch with sun and reasonably clear weather on Saturday. Winds are predicted to be up to 14 MPH from the NE on Saturday morning and then dropping away to 10 MPH by the end of the day. Sunday is fairly steady winds from the NE at 10 until 5 PM.

Ken is due to be with us on Saturday only, and in Maryland on Sunday, so if you're stocking up on motors or parts come out on Saturday at least to do business.

As far as set-up, since it's going to be windy I'd say lets start set-up at 10, field open by 11.

Membership...  if you're owed a T-shirt we've gotten the shirts back in Charlotte and we'll have the current stock there this weekend. If we don't have size &/or color available then we're probably going to have to get a new order processed.

We're also re-working the membership files and trying to get the website current, I thank you for your patience!

Looking forward to getting back to flying, see you all soon!

We're gettin' the band back together!

Well, it's been a while folks...  seems like it's been ages since we were at the Midland field.

I'd like to remind you all that the South Carolina section of ROSCO will have a Sport Launch at the beautiful Camden, SC sod farm this weekend, October 12th & 13th LINK  The weather looks beautiful, with temps in the mid 80's and winds topping out at about 8 mph on Saturday and even less on Sunday.

We're going back to the farm in the next few weeks to get everything ready for our first Midland launch, currently scheduled for November 16th & 17th. (keep your fingers crossed, waiting for a crop update).

So get your kits out & finish building 'em, grab those engines, dust off those rockets you've had out in the shed for the summer & get ready, 'cause it'll be here before you know it!

No launch on Sunday April 28th

I do appologize, I should have posted this when I got back from the field, we will NOT be flying on Sunday the 28th due to the winds being predicted to be 10 - 15 mph for most of the afternoon and straight into the waist-high oat field. We lost at least on and almost several more to it yesterday and we shouldn't be wandering around in that to find lost rockets.

I did want to extend a gracious thanks to 2 folks who made contributions to NAR and ROCC yesterday.

Eirc Mitchell from Lenoir NC came by and delivered to both ROCC and NAR a huge treasuretrove of rockets, parts & LP engines that will be going to the repair box, members and out to the NAR nationals for their auction and the fly it - take it ptogram. Eric has been out of the hobby for about 12 years and is getting ready to move and wanted the massive stash to go to good homes.

Later in the day Peter Alvin stopped by with a large bag of kit parts and partially constructed rockets that will find their way to the raffel next season.

Thanks to you both for your generous contributions.

April 27th & 28th launch update

Hello fellow rocketeers, it looks like we might actually be able to launch this weekend! The rain has mostly passed and it seems like the winds will be from the west moving down the runway toward the road on Saturday.

Sunday's wind forecast is a bit more problematic, it's supposed to both gain in strength and shift more to the north east which puts recovery into the very tall barley and our favorite neighbor.

That said, if you're thinking about flying this weekend I'd make it Saturday as we may have to call Sunday because of winds.

Ken will be with us, as well as a group of about 8 or so kids from a school launch with Brad Shea. Last time they came out they had a blast (pun intended!)

Since we had some rain on Friday I'd like to start the set-up at 10 am and aim range open at 11. That'll give the morning sun and breeze time to dry us out a bit before we all decend on the field.

See ya there!    dr

Short Make-Up launch March 23rd.

We're setting up a short make-up day for the TARC folks to finish all their flights, from 1 till 5 PM tomorrow, March 23rd. If you still have some more motors to fly then come on out, the winds will be from the north mostly so we're away from Mr. S.

See ya there.
