Board Members 2018

Board Members 2018

Good Morning,

I spoke to all of the current Board Members and everyone, with the exception of President, are willing to carry on for at least another year 2018. I will be carrying on in the roles of NAR/Tripoli Prefect in 2018, but not as President. We will have a vote on the current lineup for 2018, and a new President during the 12/16, 17 launch weekend, or online depending on weather.

President: Open
VP/Launch Equipment: Doc
Treasurer: Roy
Secretary: Louise
Membership: Jason
NAR: John Bergsmith
Tripoli Prefect: John Bergsmith
Tripoli Secretary: Doug
Community Relations: Laura
Advisors: Ralph, Charlie O

My Presidency will end on 12/31/17. We need a new person to step up and carry the club forward. Nominations will be accepted either online or this weekend. For the club to remain healthy we need new people to step up and bring new ideas to the table. I have certainly enjoyed my time as President and look forward to seeing what the next person will do.

If a new President isn't found prior to 12/31/17, the VP would take over the role until a replacement is found. I really don't want Doc put in this position so we need the next person to step up and take over.

Thanks
John

December 2 & 3, 2017 - Launch

The farm will be ready to go for this weekend. 12/2 & 12/3 will be the first launch of the season weather permitting.

Set up time will be 9:45am on 12/2. Since this is the first set up, if you arrive early please don’t unpack you car until the field is set up. We will most likely have to shift cars around once the equipment is layout and to allow space for Ken.

Keep watching later in the week for a go no go on the weather.

ROCC Launch moved to December 2nd &3rd

Well, the weather is conspiring against Kip getting the soybeans out, so we're going to shoot for the 2nd & 3rd of December.

Everyone please be careful driving on Thanksgiving and have a happy and safe holiday.

If you're looking for something crazy, check out this guy's webcast on the 25th...

EXTRA, EXTRA.... Wanna go to an Air Show?

We got an email from Paul Schaefer yesterday that I wanted to pass on...

Good morning, We, (Tripoli nc) Michael Gunter and myself are displaying and catering at the Warbirds over Monroe airshow next weekend.      (edit... event website is HERE)

We are fund-raising for a full scale Nike Ajax project and recruiting for Tripoli. We are in need of any assistance available. 50,000 people are expected to attend the show.
Volunteers would be greatly appreciated.

We appologize for the short notice but it took awhile for us to get final nod from the organizers.

We are bringing our launch trailer with 1/2 scale Nike Ajax, Our 22' rocket grill.

The half-scale project is 16" dia. build,  18' tall rocket, name is TBD.

We are bringing food donated by US foods And Chandler Foods to cater and raise funds for the full scale Nike Ajax project, to be a 37' tall 2 stage project.

The menu is Brunswick stew, Janitas Carolina Stew, Pork BBQ, cornbread, cookies, etc.

We just need some physical assistance if you guys have or know of any younger folks to help serve food. Michael and I get so caught up in the presentation it's hard to do it all. (we are both disabled.)

We can offer some, but not a lot of money for your time, maybe $8 an hour??

Please get in touch ASAP...

So it sounds like an interesting opportunity if you can help out, spread the word to our rocketry buddies & see some cool stuff along the way!

Not long now!!

As Summer winds down and the air starts to get a little cooler, a rocketeer's thoughts turn to...  AP!

Just saying, we're not long from the next season of flying at Kip's farm in Midland, time to start dusting off those range boxes and making sure all your fins are attached.

To get you in the spirit of things, here's a little piece put together at KQED for their Quest program...

 See everybody soon!

Where were you?

I was sitting in our living room with my parents and my Grand Mother, who as a child had seen the Wright brothers fly, watching this 48 years ago.

Here's a LINK to Nasa's image gallery on Apollo 11...  enjoy!

NASA videos worth a look...

A couple of great NASA videos that hit the site this week, the first I wanted to bring to your attention is one on Sounding Rockets. It explains how they're used and a bit about why they're the right choice for some missions.

Next up is one about Cube Sats, a subject that's near & dear to Dr. Doug's heart, having worked on some.

The last one is from the NASA USLI site, a great introduction video on HP rocketry.

Thanks, and keep building!  dr

May launch update

Kip's crop situation is, well, there's no other way to say it, they're really TALL!

Ralph & I worked out at the farm a couple weekends ago and I found my lost Luna rocket (which was nice) but the oats in the north field where it was were beard-deep!!

Bottom line, we're not flying in May.

Good side, we may very well get a June launch in so we'll keep you up to date.

April 22 & 23 Launch Report

Unfortunately weather conspired against us in April, with high winds on Saturday and a day full of Rain canceling Sunday. Roy couldn't make it out so I'll take a stab at doing the launch report. Remember, if you have photos that you want me to post in the gallery send them over to: rocketrycarolina (at) gmail (dot) com.
