Upcoming Launch Schedule

ROCC 2024-2025 Launch Schedule:

NO launch in May due to the wheat. We hope to fly in June.

All launches are at the Midland, NC site unless otherwise stated.*

Here are some other launch opportunities in our area:

ICBM & ROSCO, better known as Rocketry South Carolina, flies near Dalzelle, SC., Just NE of Shaw AFB.  More information can be gotten at their site HERE

The Saturn Rocketry Club in Hendersonville is currently switching their launch field. As soon as we know where they land we will post it. Their FB site is HERE

NC Rocketry flies at Bayboro, NC in the northeast part of the state, information is HERE

Set-up starts at about 9:30, launches commence about 10:30. Field closes about 60 min. before local dusk so we can clean up. Watch the site front page for specifics. Also visit us on FaceBook. You can also check for the FAA NOTAM at https://notams.aim.faa.gov/notamSearch/nsapp.html#/ and using KCLT (Charlotte) as the location. This will give you the starting and ending times for HP flights.

* If field is available due to crops, etc.

We're a GO for Sunday the 21st, but with cautions...

Ralph & Kip met out at the farm Saturday afternoon and we seem to be in a bit better shape than we were expecting, with some important notes...

Set-up time crew figure on arriving at 10 AM, flying by 11 AM. Range closeure by 5 PM so we can pack up.

Driving:  Between the gravel in the front and the porta-potty, particularly in the middle of the runway, is pretty squishy. Please stay as far left or right as you can esecially near this area.

Also, let's try and limit the number of trips back and forth...  please figure on staying put once you get there rather than a bunch of in and out trips, that'll help keep the runway from getting torn up.

It's supposed to be a beautiful day for January, but out in the fields there's still some snow and it will be pretty soggy in the low spots so wear good footwear and watch out walking around, it's liable to be muddy in spots.

Ken from Performance Hobbies WILL be there.

Simpson cautions...  if you drift onto Mr. Simpson's you must take one of the officers with you to go retrieve, and you must actually speak with him before you can go into the fence enclosure and get your rocket. (As for me, I'm going to try to not need to go there really hard! Word to the wise...)

On that note, winds are supposed to be 3-5mph from the west to south west.

Thanks all...  dr

Saturday's looking soggy, but HOPEFULLY a Sunday January 21st Launch

UPDATE Friday evening...

Not a lot has changed, you go squish squish squish if you walk across the runway, no way we can allow cars on it right now. Ralph & Kip are going to speak about 3 tomorrow (Sat.) and see where we are, how much melting and evaporation has happened and if the site can accomodate us. Right now we need a day of really good sunshine and a night that doesn't refreeze the ground so the water can evaporate off.

If we get good conditions then we'll go for Sunday, if not we'll recycle a week and try for the 26th & 27th as a 2-day launch which would suit folkks, particullarly those who drive good distances and especially Ken, much better than having a 1-day.

Truly this is the part of rocketry that sucks, we're going to have a beautiful weekend and we can't use it.

Keep your fingers and toes crossed and we'll see what happens.

dr

Right now, as beautiful as Saturday is supposed to be, the field is probably not going to be in any condition to fly. There's still snow everywhere and we're concerned about tearing up the runway. As of Thursday evening if the snow melts and we get a good day Saturday we should be able to have a Sunday launch. Still need to check in with Kip but keep your fingers crossed!

**** Mr Simpson Rules - These are very easy rules to follow, some might say common sense. Read them, memorize them, print them off. Whatever it takes to make sure you follow them exactly. If you have any questions ask before you do anything.

1). Nobody steps foot on Mr Simpsons property without a board member with them. Board Members: John, Ralph, Roy, Doc, Charlie. I can tell you from experience that if you choose to go on his property without a board member things will most likely not go well for you.
2). Under no circumstance does your vehicle go any further than his driveway, walking from that point is required.
3). If your rocket lands on his property you are not allowed to climb over his fence that separates his property from Kips. You must go around and enter the front of his property. SEE RULES # 1 & 2. If Mr Simpson catches you climbing his fence, again it's not going to go well for you. If I catch you climbing his fence you will be asked to leave the farm. Again this rule is well known.
4). If your rocket lands on his property you must retrieve it. He has live stock that might be tempted to eat the rocket and could cause problems. So no wimping out.
5). Here's the ultimate common sense guideline. If the wind is blowing strong towards Mr Simpsons property stop a think about what rocket/motor combo you are choosing. In other words, try keeping it on the farm. RSO's will be paying closer attention this year with those wind conditions, so be prepared to answer some key questions.
6). I had to save a couple of guys from Mr Simpson last year. Let me tell you he gets very chippy in a hurry when he feels his rules have been broken. This years going to be different because I'm going to be more concerned with saving myself. :) With that being said, lets have some fun!

2018 Club Officers

Listed below are the 2018 Club Officers for 2018. Ralph has volunteered to be President, but will certainly need assistance since he can't be at the farm every launch. Roy has decided to step down as Treasurer. I've volunteered to take this position for 2018. Roy will split the Club Secretary with Louise.

It's important that we get new people stepping up to take over these positions. We keep recycling, but we need new people to enter the mix to carry the club forward.

Listed below are the 2018 Club Officers:

President: Ralph Roberts
VP/Launch Equipment: Doc
Treasurer: John Bergsmith
Secretary: Louise & Roy
Membership: Jason
NAR/Tripoli: John Bergsmith
Tripoli Secretary: Doug
Community Relations: Laura
Advisors: Ralph, Charlie
