ROCC 2024-2025 Launch Schedule:
NO launch in May due to the wheat. We hope to fly in June.
All launches are at the Midland, NC site unless otherwise stated.*
Here are some other launch opportunities in our area:
ICBM & ROSCO, better known as Rocketry South Carolina, flies near Dalzelle, SC., Just NE of Shaw AFB. More information can be gotten at their site HERE
The Saturn Rocketry Club in Hendersonville is currently switching their launch field. As soon as we know where they land we will post it. Their FB site is HERE
NC Rocketry flies at Bayboro, NC in the northeast part of the state, information is HERE
Set-up starts at about 9:30, launches commence about 10:30. Field closes about 60 min. before local dusk so we can clean up. Watch the site front page for specifics. Also visit us on FaceBook. You can also check for the FAA NOTAM at https://notams.aim.faa.gov/notamSearch/nsapp.html#/ and using KCLT (Charlotte) as the location. This will give you the starting and ending times for HP flights.
* If field is available due to crops, etc.

Roy Potter's May post-launch report is in with all the gory details on the weather and the winds. Those who stayed out of the trees seemed to have a great time and even the tree'ed folks seemed to have a reasonable time of it. Remember that there's Orangeburg on the 7th with a ROSCO sport launch, and of course if you want to get out of town before all the DNC craziness then Freedom Launch is for you. Click the "Read More" link and read on.... dr
Jeff Jones sent me a great clip from his Nikon R10 that he had out at the May launch. It's posted on the ROCC YouTube channel. Check it out... dr
This, from Doug Knight on Thursday...
Way. Too. Cool.
Congratulations to your team Doug, safe travels home.
From John Bergsmith Tuesday morning...
"I drove by the field yesterday to determine if flying would be possible this coming weekend. Didnt take long to determine that it would not be. The corn has grown to a point were finding a rocket would be almost impossible. We might have a possibility of a low power launch in the future was the lower field is cleared out."
So, with that in hand, this weekend's launch is scrubbed. We do have several Cub Scouts things coming up, and I had a lovely chat with Kelly Jenkins yesterday about his first O'Burg weekend and having a really great time. That's always an option for most of you.
If anyone can find us a field PLEASE contact one of the officers and see what we might be able to arrange, even if it's not an HP field. At least that would keep us meeting on a regular basis.

I've mentioned before a website that both Jean and I love, that is Phil Plait's Bad Astronomy blog at Discover Masgazine. Phil used to work on the Hubble and is one of the most requested astronmoers out there, having wirtten several books, including "Death from the Skies", hosted his own series on the Discovery channel and many, many articles on the web.
His site has a bunch of web links for Tuesday's Transit of Venus across the sun. It's located HERE.
Unless you're going to be around for the next one in like, 117 years, now's your shot!
Enjoy....

A lot of members have asked for this, and now we have it!
After you log in, click on Member Info on the left side of the page. You will notice that we can now contact other members. This is a great addition that both Jean, and Doc have added to the site. We will make sure we have a process in place so this section remains updated. They are still working on it, so it's not the finished product but an outstanding start.
Thanks goes out to both Jean and Doc for working on this new section.
Roy's report on our flight activity from the May 6th ROCC Midland, NC outing is below. Sorry for the delayed posting, I wanted to get beyond the 20th launch and then forgot to come back and post it. My apologies all... dr
Prior to the docking the Dragon spacecraft is making a fly-by of the ISS. You can watch the feed here:

A new day is dawning in low earth orbit!

Hopefully the weather allows us two great days of launching this coming weekend! Some points:
1. The return of the duty rosters, so please sign up. The rosters will be up at the front tables. We need more people participating in LSO/RSO, and set up and take down of the equipment. So if you can be onsite Saturday morning at 9:30am to help set up, please email me at johnbergsmith@me.com. As always, thanks to everyone that helps.
Everything is a go for this weekend. Ralph will not be cooking this weekend.
