ROCC 2024-2025 Launch Schedule:
NO launch in May due to the wheat. We hope to fly in June.
All launches are at the Midland, NC site unless otherwise stated.*
Here are some other launch opportunities in our area:
ICBM & ROSCO, better known as Rocketry South Carolina, flies near Dalzelle, SC., Just NE of Shaw AFB. More information can be gotten at their site HERE
The Saturn Rocketry Club in Hendersonville is currently switching their launch field. As soon as we know where they land we will post it. Their FB site is HERE
NC Rocketry flies at Bayboro, NC in the northeast part of the state, information is HERE
Set-up starts at about 9:30, launches commence about 10:30. Field closes about 60 min. before local dusk so we can clean up. Watch the site front page for specifics. Also visit us on FaceBook. You can also check for the FAA NOTAM at https://notams.aim.faa.gov/notamSearch/nsapp.html#/ and using KCLT (Charlotte) as the location. This will give you the starting and ending times for HP flights.
* If field is available due to crops, etc.

Update: The weather is looking great for Saturday right now, and John has confirmed we are a GO for our launch this weekend. Ken Allen from Performance Hobbies will be on site for all of your rocketry needs wnich is great to hear.
As we mentioned earlier we will only have access to the back portion of the field, past where the wind sock is, so the power levels will be restricted to D and under... maybe if the wind is with us or on a heavy rocket we might sneak in an E motor. No "sparky's" because of the presence of the rest of the soy beans that will be drying down by then. Remember, this is Kip's livelyhood and a huge investment, so we must treat it with care.
This will be a Saturday only launch.Ken is planning on being at the field on Saturday. So if you have any special orders give Ken a call.
The pres has called a board meeting for this Saturday, the 29th, at 2 pm.
We'll be meeting at the Wireknot offices at 655 Pressley Rd, suite H. It's where we met last summer.
If you google map it we're in the middle of the far building, right next to GAT-3, in the slot with Moving Pictures (their's is the sign you'll see).
If you come from South Tryon St. the Pressley Rd. intersection has a McD's and a Doc-in-a-Box on either corner, and if you're a real old Charlottean it's the old Service Merchandise corner.
Turn on to Pressley, cross over 77 and you'll come to a sharp bend to the right. At that bend, on the left, you'll see a small sign for Pressley Park. (It used to be bigger till some one drove into it). We're in the middle of the farthest (3rd) building. Drive till you can see the wind sock for the helipad and you're there.
I'll have some snax but if you want beer then byo....

Just to make it clear, all club members are welcome to come to this meeting. Basically it's a meeting to prepare for the upcoming season. Bring a recent build, or a new kit. This has been a busy year so far for a lot of us, so I'm looking forward to seeing everyone.
Back in 1977 when the 2 Voyager spacecraft were launched they really weren't supposed to last this long. Really, they were sent on a one way ride and would eventually leave the solar system and be our calling cards to the stars.
Now 35 years later we are still getting science from the project and here's the really cool thing. In recent months the level of cosmic rays striking the Voyager 1 spacecraft have increased steadily. This points to the spacecraft leaving the Sun's heliosphere and entering intersteller space. Since May 2012 the level has almost doubled and this scientists say is a good indication that the Sun's solar wind is now not overpowering the cosmic particles striking the craft.
Wow. Here's a link to more.

Please note, most of this information is from last year's announcement, as the O'Burg web site is in the process of being moved. Please check back for updates and also check the Orangeburg website located HERE for the latest information.
Are you experiencing Rocket Exhaust Withdrawl symptoms?
I suggest attending “Freedom Launch”, the annual East Coast Rocket Meet
Hoasted by the Orangeburg NAR (ROSCO) and Tripoli (ICBM) Chapters.
Since the Farm crop season is keeping us out of the farm for a while yet, I strongly prescribe a road trip this Saturday thru Monday, “Labor Day” weekend ( 1 – 2 – 3 Sept. ) to Orangeburg SC.
Rocket Ralph and Doc Russell have previously said this is like an annual pilgrimage for most of the flyers, and even if your not planning to fly, it is well worth it to go and just watch the show. (Doc's really ticked that he's going to miss it this year thanks to working the DNC!)
Multiple venders are available for those things that you haven’t been able to get hold of for a while.
Fliers have come from as far North as Maine as far south as Florida and as far west as Texas.
Fliers or groups who have a rocket project that they can only fly once a year, and want it to be seen, bring it here. So you can always expect a show.
Not to say that there are no Low or Mid Power fliers. The kids can outnumber the adults.
Usually, they have at least 12 or more Low Power pads set up with 12 or more Mid Power and High Power pads, and about 4 High Power Away Cells.
So there is usually no back ups with plenty of pads available.
From the Charlotte area. (The Orangeburg club flies off a “Super Sod” Farm)
Travel Time = from I-77 at Harris Blvd is 2 hours 40 minutes
Take I-77 South to where it ends at Columbia SC.
Merge off the end of I-77 onto I-26 South.
Take I-26 S to Exit 154A (Hwy 301) towards OrangeBurg.
The Super Sod farm is only about ¼ to ½ mile on the Left.
Staying over? (ask to see if there is a Freedom Launch discount )
Days Inn, 1-803-534-0500, Across the I-26 Hwy from the site, Minimal services but has a pool.
Quality Inn and Suites 1-803-531-9200, Exit 145A south (Hwy 601) off I-26.
3671 Saint Matthews Rd (Hwy 601). More services and restaurants within walking distance.
There are many other places to stay at the same exit, 145A off I-26, do a Map Quest for a list.
Flight Fee = Last Year was $10 a day and maybe $25 for the weekend.

Posted some photos in the gallery from Saturday's Scout launch. Thanks to all who participated! Everybody seemed to have a great time... dr
We've been invited back to the Belk Scout Camp on August 11th to help the scouts with a rocket launch. The launch would start at approx. 10am and run to 1pm.
Basically we stop by the farm to pickup our low power pads and equipment, then head to the camp to set up.
Right now we have myself and Ralph committed to going. We need at least two more people to help us. So who would be available to help on 8/11? Please let me know asap!
Thanks
John
Ken Allen's mother recently passed away. Please keep Ken and his family in our thoughts!
Break out the 3-D glasses folks!!
APOD (one of my favorite sites on the 'tubes) posted this on the anniversary of Apollo 11. Enjoy....
