February's (the real one) launch report - 2/17&18/2024

January's launch window was delayed twice until the first few days of February, this time we got the real February launch in on the 17th & 18th. A couple of chilly, windy days that turned out to be fairly forgiving as far as the wind drift was concerned. Roy gives us all the details in his launch report. February 17th & 18th Pre-flight info - Updated 2/16

Weather is still holding for Midland this weekend, 2/17 & 2/18, with Saturday being the windier day. As Winnie the Pooh said, it'll be blustery.

It looks like Ken is with us on Saturday, his website calendar says he's in VA at NOVAR on Sunday. Not guite sure about it, the 17th has rolled off of the calendar it looks like. Maybe he'll chime in here.

Setup will be at 10, flying at 11 till 5 PM unless it's just too windy and folks peter out. Highs in the mid 50's both days.

I'll have NAR L2 written tests with me on Saturday if anyone needs to take one, chime in here if you're looking for that. I know I had one that couldn't make it last time.

There is a small chance of a rain shower early Saturday morning but it doesn't look like it'll scuttle us.

Feb 3&4 flight recap

Our belated January launch, delayed by temps in the teens and then a week of rain that flooded the lower fields, finally was held on the first weekend in February. We weren't the only ones suffering delays, the folks in SC had their launch delayed as well, happening on the same weekend. February 3 & 4 UPDATE

UPDATE THURSDAY EVENING:

We are a GO for launch this weekend, Feb 3 & 4, at the Midland field.

Set-up at 10, fly by 11, we'll fly until 5:00.

Ken will NOT be with us this weekend since we're WAY off schedule (as are the folks in SC, they're flying this weekend as well in Dalzelle).

Because of Ken being in MD, if you have motors or parts that you want to sell or trade bring it on out, we'll have a "boot sale".

I will be there on Saturday if anyone wants to take the NAR L2 written test.

January 27th / 28th SCRUBBED

Sorry ROCC folks, but looking at the weather forecast there's no way we'll be able to fly this weekend. Since it's been raining the last few days and with an inch of rain predicted for Saturday, ending early Sunday morning the field will be in no condition to support traffic and launch activities.

We'll try and reschedule if we can get a good few dry days. Keep an eye to the site as well as here.

Hey ROCC'ers... looking to the weather, it looks really iffy this weekend. Rain through till dawn on Sunday from what Ralph, Roy and I are seeing. Stay tuned! The launch might (probably) move again unfortunately.

ROCC launch news...

Looking ahead to next weekend and weather. It is slated to turn bitterly cold on Friday evening, dropping to 15 degrees overnight and then a high of just above freezing on Saturday. Sunday is supposed to be a heat wave, getting up to 36. Winds are 10 mph on Saturday.

All this adds up to a weekend that folks around here are not used to standing out in a field and not getting hypothermia.

We've checked with Ken and he's available the next weekend, the 27th and 28th.

Therefore we are pushing back the next launch date to that next weekend, January 27/28 with hopes of a bit better weather.

New Years (Kinda) launch 12/30/2023

Hey ROCC'ers, we've got decent weather for Saturday 12/30 for an end of year launch. 

Set-up at 10AM so it warms up a bit, fly 11 - 4:30 or so. 

Ken WILL be on site.

Another launch is in the bag and Roy's done it again, writing up all of our flights, deciphering our chicken scratches into something readable. So settle in, warm up that bowl of rice pudding or Christmas cake and read on my friends...

Saturday 12/16 Launch update

Hey fellow ROCC'ers...

Upcoming launch this weekend, Saturday 12/16, looks like decent weather. Sunday looks like it will be a washout with 1.5" of rain predicted. The earlier on Saturday we fly probably the better, winds are predicted to be low and mostly down the runway.

Setup at the usual time, 9:30, flying by 10:30.

Ken is at MDRA in Maryland this weekend, so if you have spare motors floating around, or anything else you want to flog, bring it out. Since he won't be with us we can make it a mini swap meet.

In other news, please think about nominations for club officers for the new year. We haven't had a proper election in way too long and several of us would love to shed some load. We'll see if we can do the elections over email.
